In a supermarket what counts is the time per customer. Every second lost looking for an item or typing in a weight is queue, and the queue can be seen from the street.
You scan the barcode and the item is already on the line. If it is sold by weight, the scale talks to the till: put the goods on, tap the item and the weight goes in on its own. And the labels printed by the counter scale are read by the scanner too, with their weight and their amount inside.
And at the end of the day, the smart drawer: the customer drops the money in, the machine counts the change out and the till balances without anyone counting coins.

Hygiene and cash control
Whoever handles the food does not handle the money
It works with the drawers that take the money and give the change back —the Cashlogy ones by Azkoyen and other makes—. The POS tells it the amount, the customer drops in the notes and the coins, and the machine counts the change out. Nobody touches the cash.
Notes and coins go from hand to hand all day long, and since covid no customer wants to see the same hand that took their money handing them the bread. With the drawer, the customer puts the money into the machine and the machine gives the change back: the assistant never touches the cash, doesn't take the gloves off or wash their hands every five minutes, and goes back to the food clean.
